HOW BEHARREN GRANT STRATEGIES CAN HELP YOU
Grant Research
Research is where it the fun truly begins! After we learn more about your needs, we customize an ongoing list of grant opportunities that matches your vision, mission, and projects. It wouldn’t be a “Beharren” list though without some potential risk-taking grants that would be worth your while!
Case for Support
Before you apply for a grant, you need to build your case for support. The simple question grant funders are asking is why should they support you? Well, you need to make your case! We help you compile all required information that grant applications need. This includes board of director details, addresses, survey figures, projects, contact lists, and more. Having all this information in one location will make organization and finding important information a breeze!
Grant Writing
We understand that writing can be time consuming and stressful. Let us take that burden off of you! With the information provided from the Case for Support, we complete your application which can include narratives, excel sheets, survey results, and images. We thoroughly review the grant funder instructions, complete the application with all the necessary details, and write in the voice you want the funder to hear. This can be a one time application or a pipeline of grant management. However, with our years of writing experience, we got you.
Strategic Consulting
Consulting is a broad term. For us, we pull focus to the word “strategic”. This is where we ask guiding questions, identify challenges, and help develop a roadmap plan to solve your problems. It can be about branding, social media, personnel, marketing, organizational systems, business structures, leadership, assessments, and more. Some questions we ask are:
- What do you want to achieve in the next month, three months, six months?
- How can we get your business or nonprofit to be more intentional with programs?
- How can we expand outreach to different communities?
- What forms of guerilla marketing can we do?
Together, we brainstorm, analyze, and solve

Connecting with You
When I plan, strategize, and write, I do my best to convey it in your voice. I am passionate about furthering the mission of nonprofits and businesses that resonate with me. I stand in your shoes and express the emotions, passion, and vision to the people who need to hear you. For years, I have been a strong advocate for education, health and wellness, animals, and the protection of childrens’ livelihoods. My clients fall into these categories, but as the world develops new solutions for new problems, I am all for supporting a good cause.
Creating the Roadmap
My process revolves around connection, so it is absolutely essential to get to know you. My favorite part is watching my clients’ faces light up as they talk about the importance of their work. I live for that passion! During our first consultation meeting, my questions include learning about your needs, grant readiness, and levels of support. From there, we create a customized roadmap that includes proposals, strategic plans, grant management, marketing efforts, research, and assessments.
Growing our Partnership
My objective is to transform and adapt for your needs. During my higher education tenure, I held one title but served numerous roles that benefitted the institution. It is second nature for me to meet you where you are. Whether you seek strategic advice, continuous assistance without the commitment of a full-time hire, or additional support during a transitional phase, I am ready to align with your current needs.
But remember, even if you are not ready for grants…that is completely okay! We know that you are ready to expand, grow, build, and develop. We can still do that together whether it be strategically developing a roadmap proposal or creating a list of future grants. It never hurts to contact us to see how we can support you!
ABOUT ME
My name is Melanie Conde Tannenbaum, but everyone calls me Mel! Short, sweet, and to the point. For years, I pictured my life as a psychologist. Like most, I loved helping people and solving problems for others. I couldn’t find my niche. As I explored psychological and higher education roles, I was introduced to project and change management, grant writing, organizational techniques, marketing styles, social media trends, and assessment. I gradually stumbled into the world of strategic consulting and never looked back.
As I started my grant strategies business, I made it my mission to support nonprofits and businesses looking for change. I know what it’s like to be stuck in the corner not knowing what direction to turn or how to take the next step. However, I always understood that a risk or change can alter the future.
When we work together, be prepared for questions like:
- How do we get to the next level?
- What strategic risks can we take?
- How open are you to new ideas?
- What can we change?
That’s why you want me on your team. I am forthcoming and critiquing. As an A-type personality, my mind moves a million miles a second analyzing ideas, developing new concepts, and planning for the future. Let me do that for you. I want my clients to be the superhero they need to be while I help craft their vision to fruition. Throughout my years supporting higher education institutions, nonprofits, small businesses, and individualized clients, I have raised $400,000 in funding, planned strategic changes to maximize business, and implemented projects.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master of Science in Professional Communications, a Master of Education in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, and two Certificates in Consulting and Grant Writing. In my free time, I enjoy challenging my baking skills, playing with my two dogs, traveling with my family, trying local restaurants, and watching Bay Area sports.

Why “Beharren”?
In German, “beharren” means to persevere. While the German language is a nod to my husband, the meaning of perseverance resonates with my mother. Several years ago, my mother immigrated from Hong Kong. As a 12-year-old, she had to face a new world alone. Many teenagers would have collapsed under the pressure she faced, but she persevered. She made something of herself and created a foundation of success for her family. We call this the “immigrant mentality”. To survive in a new world, we must keep fighting and persevering. In honor of my mother and the mentality she has instilled in me, perseverance is literally in the name. Our purpose is to help our clients persevere.
